Déjà Vu: “50 Million” Environmental Refugee Lies Regurgitated

The blatantly untrue claim that there would be 50 million ‘environmental refugees’ by the year 2010 has been resuscitated almost verbatim by climate change scientists, but this time with a target date of 2020.

In an absolutely blatant display of chicanery and shameless lying which has come to characterise the entire ‘climate change’ racket, the renewed claim was made earlier this week by one ‘professor’ Cristina Tirado at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

“In 2020, the UN has projected that we will have 50 million environmental refugees," ‘professor’ Tirdo was reported as saying.

She then went on to bizarrely claim that the current wave of Tunisians attempting to invade Europe were motivated by “poverty caused by climate change” rather than taking advantage of the self-inflicted political chaos in their country.

The claim, endorsed by other conference attendees, is an almost identical repetition of the claim made in 2005 that there would be 50 million ‘environmental refugees’ as a result of ‘climate change’ by 2010.

Then, the 2010 prediction was contained in a formal press release by “United Nations University experts” dated 11 October 2005 on a UN website.

This hysterical claim was then lapped up by the mass media who used emotive pictures of starving Africans (such as the BBC article, illustrated aabove).

According to the 2005 United Nations University (UNU) press release, the Western world needed to make up a new category of refugee, namely those fleeing the effects of (Western-created, of course) “climate change.”

The UNU statement said that “[A]mid predictions that by 2010 the world will need to cope with as many as 50 million people escaping the effects of creeping environmental deterioration, United Nations University experts say the international community urgently needs to define, recognize and extend support to this new category of ‘refugee’.

“In a statement to mark the UN Day for Disaster Reduction (October 12), UNU’s Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) in Bonn says such problems as sea level rise, expanding deserts and catastrophic weather-induced flooding have already contributed to large permanent migrations and could eventually displace hundreds of millions.”

This prediction, repeated slavishly by the controlled media, was widely used to emotionally blackmail westerners into setting up “climate change funds,” increase taxes, add levies onto fuel bills for “green energy” projects and to further deindustrialise their nations.

Is it little wonder that climate change sceptics will have a feeling of déjà vu with the latest claims.
