The Right Reverend Peter Price, the Church of England Bishop of Bath and Wells, in speaking to the Church’s General Synod on last summer’s riots said that “taking part in a riot can be an ecstatic, spiritual experience”. He went on to say “The tragedy of our times is that once again we have a large population of young people who are desperate to escape from the constrained lives to which they seem to be condemned”. Is society, the church, or the government to blame for the untold damage of these riots or is it the rioters who are at fault?
