Are the English Democrats schizophrenic? Certainly the party appears to have some kind of split personality disorder. On the one hand they have accepted as members individuals whose disaffection with the modern British National Party is rooted in their personal extremism. 

It’s not just high profile ‘hardliners’ like German neo-Nazi sympathiser Chris Beverley and his very close friend Mark Collett. A number of the other recent defectors share their simplistic and crude racist views. New English Democrat Ramon Johns, for example, is a rabid anti-Semite and crude racist who has never been comfortable with the way his old party has become much more moderate since his hero John Tyndall was voted out of office. 

On the other hand, the English Democrats frequently try to highlight their standing of ‘ethnic’ candidates in order to show how PC and ‘anti-racist’ they are.

In a number of northern mill-towns, the English Democrats even stand Muslim candidates. English Democrat Shakir Saghir, who stood in the Park ward in Halifax, went so far as to try to get the election overturned when the unsuccessful Muslim Respect candidate was found to have broken the Representation of the People Act. 

The following year, Saghir’s father, at the time a Tory councillor, fled to Pakistan after being found guilty of electoral fraud.

Even when they don’t stand Muslim candidates from extended families of vote-riggers, the English Democrats boast of splitting the Patriotic vote and costing the British National Party seats. For example, in the East Wickham by-election in 2009 where the British National Party was a mere 8 votes behind the Conservative victor.

With the English Democrats no-hoper having done everything possible to steal anti-immigration votes, they did indeed cost us the seat – but is helping the Tories beat the BNP really something to boast about? What kind of ‘nationalist’ could ever forgive such treachery? Here are the figures in full:
