In Lincolnshire positioned in the traditional British seaside resort of Skegness the Halal Slaughterhouse on the Heath Road Industrial Estate has opened delivering a blow to campaigners who feared the day this event would unfold.
The British National Party have been successful in highlighting this barbaric ritual slaughter along the Lincolnshire Coastal Strip and support has been evident from all quarters with almost total opposition to this dreadful development in the town.
Party Chairman Nick Griffin MEP has additionally visited the site to add his support to the Campaign initiative.
Coming during the week in the European Parliament when a resolution was adopted to remedy the persistent sub standard conditions during long journeys to abattoirs and an aim to setting an eight hour limit for transport of animals for slaughter with the promotion of the use of local ones, the opening is a catastrophic setback.
Branch Organiser Robert Ashton commented that the restriction of the time taken to transport animals to slaughter to eight hours is only going to be considered and the issues regarding inadequate space and water allowances and caring handling of animals has not been satisfactorily tackled.
The number of animals transported in the EU has risen alarmingly and existing legislation is unsatisfactory.
Furthermore, no reference is made to Halal and an aspiration to create short and transparent food supply chains and local processing is just that with no rigorous inspection process being urgently introduced.
The resolution was adopted with 555 votes in favour but as existing rules are not properly enforced so much more can be done to reduce animal suffering.
In respect to the Skegness Halal Slaughterhouse animal suffering is clearly evident and animal welfare is it appears of no importance.
Mr Ashton continued by stating that an urgent activists meeting has taken place with a view to further promoting the support the party has for traditional farming methods and its total opposition to Halal ritual slaughter.
At this constructive meeting the Lincolnshire Coastal Branch has diarised a Day of Action for Saturday 12 January 2013 enabling activists from the region to attend at what will be an opportunity to show their opposition to Halal Slaughter in Lincolnshire.
