By David O’Loughlin- Two British National Party wreaths have been removed from the cenotaph in Maryport,West Cumbria.
Yesterday we published a report about how the local Labour Councillors were upset that
Councillor Charlton invited Nick Griffin MEP as her guest to lay a wreath at the local cenotaph.
This morning Cllr Charlton received many phone calls from the good people of Maryport saying their wreaths had been removed.
Cllr Charlton has now been to the cenotaph and can confirm that the two British National Party wreaths are no longer there.
On discovering this, Cllr Charlton reported this matter to the local police and was promptly told that this was not a police matter and no proof of theft can be confirmed.
Did these wreaths just get blown away by the wind or did they sprout legs and walk away on their own steam?
It is very unlikely that this is an act of vandalism as it is only the two BNP wreaths that have gone missing.
I spoke to Cllr Charlton this morning and she said '' I am very upset and angry about this matter, it looks to me as if these two wreaths have been removed because the local Councillors objected to me and the Chairman being present and laying our wreaths, as a Town Councillor I was invited to attend the ceremony and to bring a guest.
I think this shows a total lack of respect for our fallen heroes and just goes to show that the other local Councillors put bigotry over common decency''
Cllr Charlton also went on to say
'' If they think we will let them get away with this they have another thing coming, we will not stop until we find out who is responsible for this outrageous act''
