Members and officials of the North East region gathered for a regional meeting in South Tyneside on Thursday, 13th September, 2012, which had been organised by the new North East Regional Organiser, Pete Molloy.
The agenda for the meeting consisted of the situation of the party at regional level, new approach towards campaigning, Branch/Group officials, Regional, Branch/Group funds, local elections 2013, policy motion for conference and National Organiser, Adam Walker.
Speaking about the meeting, Mr Molloy said “With taking over as the new RO, I organised the meeting to introduce myself to the membership in the region and to set out the new approach.
The main change is focusing on quality not quantity when it comes to our future candidates.
We will no longer try and flood wards with paper candidates, but instead, prospective candidates will have to earn the right to stand for the party.
If a prospective candidate does not work their ward all year round, then they will not stand in the election.”
The subject of discipline was raised with Mr Molloy reminding the meeting that common sense must be used when using the internet.
It was also advised that rather than getting drawn into debates with irrelevant people on various web sites, that their time would be better spent on the ground amongst the community and promoting the party.
To help raise funds, Mr Walker said “One of the best ways to get money into your account is to set up a Standing Order made payable to their relevant branch and it will soon mount up ready for when an election comes along.”
The meeting went on for over 2 hours with plenty of contribution from members and officials.
“Another positive that came out of the meeting was the setting up of the North Tyneside Group and meetings to resume shortly in Newcastle” added Mr Molloy.
