By Councillor Dawn Charlton
Maryport Labour councillors showed their displeasure at the presence of the British National Party at the remembrance service held in the town on Sunday afternoon.
Maryport British National Party Councillor Dawn Charlton and her guest Chairman Nick Griffin MEP attended the service as official representatives of the party.
However, when they arrived the local Labour councillors could not hide their anger and made there feelings known, even though as a Councillor for the town Miss Charlton was invited to lay a wreath and it was stated that she was allowed to bring a guest.
The Labour councillors did nothing to make Councillor Charlton and Mr Griffin feel welcome and in fact went out of their way to try and make them feel uncomfortable, but this failed miserably as the many BNP supporters and members that attended were more than happy to see them there.
One Labour Councillor in particular went out of her way to be offensive (as seen in the video below), Councillor Carni Mc Carron-Holmes tried giving orders to Councillor Charlton saying ''you lay your wreath last'' at which point Councillor Charlton informed her that she knew the procedure as she had been informed by the clerk of the council.
Both Councillor Charlton and Mr Griffin acted in the correct manner befitting such a sad day where people up and down the country gathered to show their respects to the fallen who gave their lives so that we could be free.
It’s just a pity that these bitter and twister Labour councillors could not see past their own bigotry and see what this day was all about.
