By Bob Taylor: Dagenham organiser,Following on from the successful table top petition held on Saturday 12/1/2013 in which East London British National Party braved freezing weather to collect signatures from local resident to oppose the unnecessary introduction of parking charges by Havering Council at the local shopping parade in Hilldene Avenue, Harold Hill.
Our Dagenham organiser Bob Taylor returned once again on Monday 14/1/2013 to collect another 118 signatures in three hours in what can only be describe as arctic conditions.
As the snow fell, the residents were at times queuing up to sign the petition with a few members of the public offering to buy Mick and Bob tea and hot rolls, they were also commenting that the local Labour party had promised to be out on the streets fighting to oppose the introduction of parking charges, but have yet to show their faces.
Many of the shopkeepers voiced major concerns that the introduction of parking charges will have a detrimental effect on their trade as people will stop shopping in what is a very popular shopping parade due to the fear of getting a parking ticket. One shopkeeper said '' The thing is if someone stops to buy a paper and doesn't have change to put in the meter, they run the risk of getting a £60 parking ticket,'' he went on to say '' I wouldn't take the chance, would you.''
East London British National Party will be returning to continue to fight on behalf of the residents of Harold Hill against these unnecessary parking charges.
