By Giuseppe De Santis-A few months ago we reported how Barking & Dagenham council is wasting £320,376 a year to employ 10 full time officers and one part-time union officer.
At that time we pointed out how such an arrangement allows unions to save huge amounts of money (as they don't have to pay their officers for their time spent on union duties) used to finance the Labour party and various antifascist groups.
But how much money do trade unions get from government?
Some time ago Taxpayers Alliance found out that trade unions in 2011-12 received at least £113 million in subsidies from taxpayers.
The value of this subsidy has been exposed in the most extensive survey of national and local government ever carried out by the TPA.
It shows that trade unions received an estimated £92 million in paid staff time (facility time) plus £21 million in direct payments in 2011-12.
The research also demonstrates for the first time that public bodies are often deducting trade union subscriptions in the payroll process without charging the unions for that additional administrative support, despite union claims to the contrary.
Nationalists should look at the link below and read the attached report because it shows how much money each public sector body is throwing at trade unions:
This situation is clearly unacceptable and it's time to end it and a good start would be to campaign to force local authorities to sack their union officers and use the money saved to prevent cuts in public services.
