The Olympic torch procession was disrupted yesterday by a Muslim teenager who attempted to steal it as it made its way through Maidstone in Kent.

The scenes were caught on film and showed the 17-year old shouting "Allah Akbar" as he made a grab for the Olympic torch and he can be seen waiting behind a vehicle before trying to grab it from torchbearer Anna Skora.

He was caught and dragged away instantly by security officers.

Ms Skora was ready to hand the torch over to Graham White, who works for a Surrey charity, when he ran out of the crowd and tried to grab it.

The youth, from Gravesend, was taken into custody.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: 'At around 9.55am a man apparently attempted to take the Olympic Flame from a Torchbearer in Rochester Road.

'The man, who is from Gravesend, was arrested within seconds and is now in the custody of Kent Police.

'No one was injured in the incident and the Torch continued on its way without disruption.'
