On the 18th January, Nick Griffin MEP was allocated 90 seconds of speech time in the Strasbourg parliament on the debate surrounding and following on from the Durban Climate Change Conference.
The Durban Climate Change Conference was held in November 2011, and was the latest round of the United Nations climate change negotiations. At the end of this two week meeting the 190+ countries present decided to create a document entitled "Durban Platform for Enhanced Action".
This document commits all countries to cutting their carbon emissions. As a result of this meeting, there is now a deal to agree to cut carbon in 2015, but in fact it will only come into effect after 2020!
The EU have hailed this deal as a “historic breakthrough” however targets for each country will not even be set until next year at the earliest! And in reality, is an agreement made last year to agree to reach an agreement in three years time, to do something in eight years time, really an agreement at all? It is certainly not something to be proud of!
This so called “historic breakthrough” will not come cheap to British taxpayers either; the UK has already spent £3.4 billion helping developing countries fight ‘climate change’ and will invest a further £1 billion a year from 2020 as part of the agreement. The Climate Change Conference itself also cost the UK approximately £500,000.
