The Independent is a liberal newspaper whose collapsing circulation forced it to accept funding from a Russian oligarch in order to survive.
Today one of its hacks tells its still-shrinking readership that "the BNP is so poor it’s having to collect scrap metal" and publishes the figures from our accounts in the loss-making year of 2010 as ´proof`.
"It’s one of the laziest, sloppiest pieces of journalism I’ve seen for some time," says BNP National Treasurer Clive Jefferson.
"Either that or the author is deliberately setting out to mislead his readers.
"First, Mr. Griffin was suggesting ways in which LOCAL party groups could both help their communities and raise money to help fund outreach work such as providing help to the homeless and the hungry. His proposals about scrap metal and e-bay officers were about showing the BNP is different and that we care.
They were nothing to do with central party finances;
"Second, the article relies on the figures from our dark times of 2009-10 and bears no relationship to where the British National Party stands now.
Our accounts for 2011, passed with flying colours by the Electoral Commission as a true and accurate record, showed a fantastic turnaround to an operating surplus of nearly a quarter of a million pounds.
Our 2012 accounts, now under preparation and due once again to be submitted early to the Electoral Commission, will show another surplus."
"Obviously we still rely on donations and fund-raising efforts by ordinary people, and we’d far rather do that than be like Labour and the Tories who take millions from big business and then let the same companies jump in the privatisation looting trough," says Nick Griffin.
"But since Clive Jefferson took over as National Treasurer our books have been balanced and we’re back in the black.
The Independent’s use of three year old ´news´ to sneer and smear is typical of the bias and bigotry of the controlled media.
"It might fool some of its shrinking readership, but Britain’s nationalists aren’t naive or easily fooled.
Which means that the Indie’s readers are in for a shock when they learn that we haven’t gone away, we’re not going away and that we have the money, commitment and experience to wage the long-term struggle to be in the right place at the right time when the collapsing financial system finally goes over the cliff.
Our day will come, and we will be ready!"
