Police have begun an enquiry following claims that a 14-year-old girl was raped in Argyll and Bute.
The girl and her friend were spotted in the company of two men strolling along the intertidal zone at Alexandra Parade, Dunoon, at around 11pm on 28 June.

As the girls, both 14, walked back alone to catch a bus, a concerned member of the public called police after worrying about the way they were behaving.

The girl later told police that she had been raped by one of the men.
Douglas Wilson, Detective Inspector of Strathclyde Police, said: "This enquiry is at a very early stage and we have still to clarify exactly what happened, however, one of the girls has told police that she was seriously sexually assaulted by one of the men.

"The suspect is described as of Asian appearance, between 19 and 40 years of age, 5ft 5in in height, average build, short dark hair, dark eyes and was wearing a long sleeved purple top.

"He was with a second man, also believed to be of Asian appearance, around 5ft 3in in height, of a heavier build, between 19 and 40 years of age, dark hair and eyes and was wearing a yellow long sleeved top."

Det Insp Wilson said officers had been investigating CCTV footage and performing door-to-door enquiries the area in an attempt to find the men.

He added: "Alexandra Parade is normally quite busy with pedestrians and passing traffic and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area between 2230 and 2300 hours on Thursday night to come forward.
"On checking CCTV, we saw at least three dog walkers and two young men in the area at that time.

"I am in no way connecting them to the incident other than that they might have seen or heard something that will help us with our enquiries."
If anyone has any information, we urge them to contact the police or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Monsters who do such depravities to young girls on our streets must be caught and prosecuted.

Otherwise, these alleged paedophiles will keep getting away with it.
