As Labour councillors are planning to cut £20m in the next financial year, more people in the borough are asking, loudly, to reduce the number of councillors. Such requests have been made in a public hearing last week and in a letter published in the Barking & Dagenham Post. More interesting still, Terry Justice, a former Tory councillor, went further by suggesting to reduce the number of councillors by 2/3 so that the council could save at least £1m in the next four years.
