Taxpayers forked out £500,000 for warmonger Tony Blair's protection when he was summoned to the Iraq War inquiry. His first tranche of protection – the so-called 'ring of steel' – at the January 2010 appearance cost £273,000, and another £214,000 was spent a year later in 2011.
