Dumped ‘racist’ housing strategy could return to East End

A HOUSING strategy dumped for being “racist” in the 1990s could be brought back to prevent the break up of a new generation of families in London’s East End.

The Sons and Daughters scheme, which was scrapped almost 20 years ago after a ruling by the Commission for Racial Equality, could return to tackle the growing need for housing in Tower Hamlets.

The controversial policy, originally overseen in Tower Hamlets by the Lib Dems in the late 1980s, gave priority on the housing list to the children of established East End families.

But it caused uproar after Labour politicians classed it as racist, saying it discriminated against new arrivals from the Bangladeshi community.

When it was axed, it contributed to the ‘white flight’ phenomenon of traditional families moving away from the East End.

But now the influential Young Foundation think tank says scrapping it had devastating consequences for the “long established white working class community.”

But almost two decades on, with a dramatically changed population demographic, a 20,000-plus housing waiting list, and, according to the Town Hall, Bangladeshi offspring particularly unable to find homes near their parents, Labour councillors have had a rethink.

A six-month inquiry by the authority’s overview and scrutiny committee found offspring in their 20s now had to move far away to find homes, causing problems for the close family network.

A new ‘Sons and Daughters’ policy could help solve that, the committee said.

But although former Lib Dem councillors have raised an eyebrow at the return of a policy that was once considered racist and illegal, Labour’s Alex Heslop, who led the review, denied bringing it back would be hypocritical.

The new policy would be “non-discriminatory” and help “community cohesion”, he insisted.

“The residents will tell you they’re worried about their children who cannot afford to live in the locality,” he said.

“There is demand for the policy, but we are asking for a non-discriminatory policy so there would be some sort of category for sons and daughters.

“It’s a sensitive issue. But we think there is the support for it across the community.”

He added: “We are saying to the council have a look at it and do some research and make it work.”

The old policy discriminated against the Bangladeshi community because rules stated that families had to have lived in the home for 20 years before they could qualify, Cllr Heslop points out.

But former Lib Dem council leader Eric Flounders denied there had been any qualifying limit.

He added: “They got rid of a perfectly good policy at the time because it was politically convenient to shout ‘racism’.

“If it was a bad policy then, why’s it good now?”

    The answer is simple. It’s only discriminatory if it is in any way disadvantageous to foreign and dark skinned folk. Now that the system will benefit them, it is obviously perfectly legitimate.

    it was only racist when the policy favoured the white man.
    now that it will favour the bangledeshi’s it’s a good idea!!.

    they are becoming more and more open with their blatant treachorous, racist, evil ways but yet people are still refusing to see it.
    the bnp has got to continue to go all out to get through to the mush brained citizens of our once great country and quickly.

    Any policy that favours white families will never happen under Liblabcon. They only look after their voting constiuents. Natives of Great Britain have more chance pigs flying over Buck Palace. They will use words that will give the effect that they care. But thats it EFFECT ONLY.

    This is unbeleivable…. So now its a problem because Bangladeshi kids cant be housed near their parents?? … Well tough sh*t…

    Labour didn’t think twice when tehy destroyed generations aof white communities when they deemed it rascist to have that scheme in the 80’s ….. How the hell can any white voter sleep at night when they vote for these idiots, they cannot for the life of them see the damage they are doing to our communities whilst doing all they can to keep “Johnny Foreigner” happy in his own little community…. it is REVERSE RACISM or POSITIVE DISCRIMINATION….. The Labour councils should be sued by every English Londoner for Racist attitudes toward the White Community…..

    Mind you, they wouldn’t qualify for LEGAL AID would they, after all they are English and most importantly WHITE…. that’s another thing … why is it you only qualify for legal aid if you are a foreigner or criminal????

    Is that not discriminative????

    We seem to be forgetting that these islands of ours are no longer the home of the true British People. This is now ‘U.K. International Doss Houses Unlimited” for the benefit of all and sundry, and we indigenous British are unpaid charity workers, striving to give all these lovely enriching people from foreign climes a really lovely time - at our expense, of course.
    And we didn’t even have to apply for the job! Doesn’t that make you feel very good? No? Zen ze people in ze government und ze town halls vill find vays of making you very good about it.

    I don’t suppose that anyone in the 1930s thought that Hitler-appeasing prime ministers Stanley Baldwin and Neville Chamberlain actually hated the British people and wanted to see them exterminated. But the LibLabCon gang certainly DO!

    Oh yes of course, Alex Heslop. That same wonderful chap who broke the rules at the London count by wearing a “Smash the BNP” sticker. Only when security old him that they wouldn’t have a problem with chucking him out of the count, did he take his sticker off. He then kept following me around the place pulling stupid faces!

    Anyway..why does Alex favour policies which suddenly help Asians but not whites?

    Well…Alex doesn’t care much for anything white. He appears to be married to an Asian woman if his facebook profile is anything to go by:

    Now it’s none of my business who people marry and be friends with in this free society, but this White man has a very unhealthy infatuation with anything that appears to be Asian and it shows in his politics.

    I wonder if they will support a ‘right of return’ and compensation for native Britons forced out since the 1980s. Isn’t this a policy favoured by those of a liberal persuasion?

    The single greatest tragedy to have befallen British society is immigration, which is responsible for many ills, amongst them the destruction and scattering of the white working class. A new polyglot scum-class made up of enriched individuals and ghetto slums has arisen in its place. This scum-class now wishes to use legislation to guarantee its concentration in once white working class neighbourhoods.
    Not an accidental policy, as we all know:- the Regime pursues the destruction of indigenous British society with a vigour which is as single minded as it is hateful.
    If first generation immigrants make up roughly 14% of the British population, as school pupil figues would indicate, then that would account for about 8 million people. This is not counting their British-born offspring. If most of these aliens can one day be encouraged through generous financial incentives (paid for by the billions in EU payments we should save by withdrawing from the EU), to leave Britain, as is the BNP’s policy, then vast swathes of urban landscape and a huge wealth of housing will once again be available to our own native Folk.
    The BNP can and will save the white British working class, and in the proces, save British society from many of the ills which afflict it.

    The Bangladeshi’s should stay in Bangladesh. The white english indiginous people from the East End should remain there with their families - regardless of the size. Large white familie’s are not the problem - large ethnic familie’s quite often are.
