The Times of India reports on the plight of the British Army

It must have been the heat – but your news team missed this damning report in yesterday’s Independent. We found a reference to it, today, in The Times of India.

The Times of India reported under the headline of “British soldiers forced to take out loans to eat” wrote::

LONDON: Many soldiers in the British Army are living in poverty, and some of them are so poor that they are unable to eat and are forced to rely on emergency food voucher schemes set up by the ministry of defence, claims a damning and highly sensitive internal report.

According to the Independent, the disturbing findings outlined in the briefing team report written for Sir Richard Dannatt, the chief of the general staff, include an admission that many junior officers are being forced to quit because they simply cannot afford to stay on.

The paper further says “pressure from an undermanned army is having a serious impact on retention in infantry battalions”, with nearly half of all soldiers unable to take all their annual leave as they try to cover the gaps.

“More and more single-income soldiers in the UK are now close to the UK government’s definition of poverty… A number of soldiers were not eating properly because they had run out of money by the end of the month,” the report said.

The Independent’s report may be found here .

Perhaps the Indian government, which appears capable of feeding and equipping an army considerably larger than our own, could kindly rebate some of the £760 million in “aid” recently given/promised by the Labour regime, for the humanitarian relief of our impoverished semi-armed, semi-fed forces?

Such is the state of our Armed Forces under Labour!

  1. I’m not looking forward to this when I join, but nothing shall stop me serving my Queen and country. Even if i do starve…
How on earth, I wonder, can a country like us not afford to feed its troops, when North Korea can. I’m sure even their soldiers enjoy better living standards than ours.

  2. Sounds to me like the enemy ARE in charge in this country. What, with letting an invading ARMY through the gates whilst for lack of the true word, poisoning our forces. Come on Britain, please wake up!

  3. I was talking to an ex squaddie the other day and the facts and figures he gave me about the numbers of ex soldiers living on the street really shocked and upset me. These guys should be treated like heroes and looked after as well as illegal asylum seekers and given housing, money and all the support services that the country can muster. I blame the army for not speaking out as forcibly as they should, I blame the local authorities for letting these people fall through the net (sometimes it is deliberate because ex troops unless they are ex al queda or ex IRA are not PC, but most of all I blame the government for not passing laws guaranteeing ex service personnel a decent house, proper health care, work or benefits if they are injured either physically or mentally.
It is a national shame how they are treated.

  4. Labour are a total digrace. But it has been known for a long time that our soldier’s are treated terribly by the vile labour government. I am lost for word’s that they struggle to buy food, live in basic housing - many just above the poverty line. While labour and the lot in Brussels milk us for all they can get.

I know some people find it an honour to fight for their country -other’s it run’s in the family. But being a soldier, while being an important job - I don’t see what they get out of it. Take for example the soldier’s who lose limbs - they don’t get much money for their terrible injuries, whilst the MOD think that an iraqi civilian’s injuries were worth £2m.

It is about time our brave lad’s and ladies came home. Send the nasty labour government to war. They wouldn’t last 5 minute’s.

  5. Nu labours plan of having a Euro army is nearly complete, just a few more months of starving our services of money and their job in that respect will be done.Lets just hope that our service people, especially the high ups dont want this to happen.Britain has s*** loads of money more than enough to give our services exactly what they need, and that includes 3 free square meals a day and a better rate of pay.Nu labour would rather give it all away to the EU and any other of THEIR CAUSES than spend it on the interests of our people. We’re having our country dismantaled, wrecked and given away by a treasonous government and its so called opposition.

  6. What a joke, ‘The Euro Army’. It is a complete farce. There are currently Germans and other European countries supposedly ‘fighting’ with us in Iraq. But that is far from what they are doing. The Sun uncovered that the German’s spend all their time tucked away safely a long way from the frontlines drinking beer.

  7. The visitor numbers to the BNP Website are huge I understand.
Couldn’t the BNP set up a Bank account and have a printable direct debit on this site for People to Print off and fill in, giving copies to their Friends Families and Collegues.
Maybe Abex or UKNDA could get involved.
All People need do is Pledge a minimum £1 Per Month or Per Year.
Nobody is going to Miss £1 even in these difficult times but I bet a lot of people are appalled at this situation, I reckon there are at Least 1 Million People out there would willingly offer £1 if someone got a Direct debit in front of them.
A Million Pounds could go some way to helping out quite a few squaddies.
It Would let the troops know that they are not forgotten at Least by the British People.

How about it BNP / ABEX / UKNDA if you are looking in.

£1 may not sound much but if you ask for say £10, with times being tight most people might agree but say they will do it next week after pay day etc ,

£1 is something they can do without thinking since no one will miss it meaning more peope will agree.

  9. As a ex-soldier I can’t believe the way my former comrades are now treated. The Army is fighting two wars both started by the traitors in Clowning Street so that our forces can be sufficiently culled, when that SH*T Brown hands us over to the EUSSR we won’t be able to resist - or so he thinks.

But what that d*ckhead has not been able to get into his Commie head is the resillience of us Brits, we take so much and then we kick butt. When the BNP finally take power which won’t be too long Brown and all his nodding muppets should get the rope for treason!!

  10. As an ex soldier too, i find it utterly disgusting how out army lads are being treated….Gordon Brown has a lot to answer for!

  11. I too am ex services. I served in the early-mid 80’s. This was before the fall of the Berlin Wall and apart from the Falklands conflict, upon which moral grounds we can decide for ourselves, this was a relatively peaceful time, the only major threat being the Cold War. Since the Berlin Wall we’ve had: Bosnia, Iraq 1, Iraq 2, Afghanistan, Chechnya, the emergence of China as a superpower, countless murderous conflicts in Africa inc Zimbabwe, Dharfor, (both Chinese backed) as well as Congo and many others that make the list endless. Of course, Tony & his cronies had to join in and this is now the price our servicemen & women (and their families are paying). My daughters boyfriend had ideas about joining the TA but I managed to dissuade him. He realised he didn’t want to be killed or maimed for some politicians ego and foreign folly.

If it comes to the defence of our country I worry immensely about our forces being so few and far away, especially since we’ve a strong 5th column and the enemy infiltrated within killing our countrymen on our own streets (Oh, hang on - that can’t be true. You never hear of it in the media).

Unlike the battle of the Pelenor fields (the final battle of Lord of the Rings) I don’t see much hope of anyone riding to our rescue in our hour of need. The people of this country need to wake up & fast.

  15. Could it be all part of a hidden agenda to totally dishearten our armed forces and thus weaken their fighting capabilities? Perhaps they realise that any danger of a military coup would be mainly from the army.We can easily draw a parallel with what the government are doing to the indigenous population. They seem to be convinced that they can cow the public into submission. It just proves what a bunch of misguided fools are in charge of our country.I am convinced that this is a cynical plot to weaken this countrys defences for some dark, disgusting reason.

  17. Too few BNP members seem to appreciate that the government is running the armed services into the ground as a conscious act of policy, for the government does not envisage there to be any need for an effcient army, navy or airforce with good morale, under the coming rule by the EU, and most likely, armed occupation by at first the Europol police, and later - when the BNP comes to power - EU armed invasion in order to overthrow a BNP administration.
Too many of the posts on these pages still do not appreciate that the Queen is fully complicit in the government’s plans:- she has had many opportunities to say “enough”, but she gives the royal assent to treaty after treaty progressively stripping Britain of her sovereignty. Perhaps these innocents will reconsider their blind loyalty to this woman, when she passes the ultimate and most wicked of all of these treaties, the Lisbon Treaty, into law.
I am certain that the BNP Leadership is even now working on plans to ensure that despite this grand act of treason, we shall be in a position to defend these Isles when we have to face the EU’s armed might within days of coming to power.
In the meanwhile, the government will constinue to destroy morale within the armed services, and starve the services - the Navy especially, for it has always been the guarantor of our sovereignty against European aggressors - of funds.

  19. Comments on here about the profound dissatisfaction within the armed forces on this thread are very encouraging. Men and women surely join the forces to serve their country and to protect it; not to be a mere “mercenary army”(as the soldiers of the New Model Army put it 350 years ago)in the service of traiterous politically correct fanatics and global capitalists. Our enemy is right here, right now, infesting the political system and abroad on our streets. We have no quarrel with the natives of Iraq or Afghanistan. NuLiebour’s role in stealing the historic heartland of the Serbian people was utterly repellent.

It is quite possible that the BNP will succeed over the next few years in bodging sizeable holes in the lib-lab-con system, critically in the context of severe economic recession. They are already rocking, they know full well they lack any real legitimacy. If the forces will come in eventually and lend a hand it is still possible for our country to be saved. But as I posted yesterday it would surely be a good idea to provide some hope to our service people.

“The BNP has policies which hold out hope to our service personnel. But how about this as a further idea? The Party envisages the deportation of many hundreds of thousands of failed asylum seekers and illegals in addition to the voluntary repatriation policy. This will free up considerable housing capacity. As well as not being able to feed themselves properly service personnel face a bleak prospect upon leaving the forces, a disturbing proportion of those who are homeless are ex-forces…. Why not then offer our service personnel some of that housing, where of good standard, which is to be vacated by departing aliens? This will tie the armed forces to the Party and create even stronger bonds of loyalty and affection, particularly amongst the junior ranks, which is of vital importance.”

  20. French Mike,

I understand how you feel, but i feel when threatened, this great British country/public can become a force to be reckoned with…..i have faith in my country! We as a country never bowed to nazi tyranny in ww2, & i believe we can do it again…..if needed, but i believe the public are waking!
I also believe the boys & girls in uniform will be ok in the end!

  21. I was going to suggest that the Westminster Swine should be given “squaddy bags” so they can collect up their left over food and send it to the soldiers. But I doubt that these Political Pigs are that generous.

  22. Liblabcon politicians don’t give a damn about our service people. They are seen merely as a resource. But it’s the same thing over and over again - the power to change this is in our own hands. Even in these days of corruption and fraud if enough vote BNP then something will be done, until then it’s only going to get worse.

  23. i cant help feeling the irony of all this! they send our brave men and women thousands of miles away to hellholes with inadequate equipment and poor supplies when the enemy is safely ensconced in this country training its so called “troops” in the lake district!

  24. This is a state of affairs that is truly shameful. I am convinced that if such a situation occurred somewhere South of the Mediterranean the army would stage a coup. However our troops’ commitment to Queen and country is so strong that I do not believe it will ever happen here - I pray we have a BNP government before we are outnumbered in our democracy by Muslims and others that will destroy our culture and way of life.

    Posted by englishfry | May 13, 2008, 10:03 am
  25. Yes I agree that our troops are committed to he Queen as I was as a serving soldier. But too much more of this treatment and I think even the most strongly committed will start to realise a sense of total betrayal not only by this joke of a government but also being sold down the line by Her Majesty. Someone should make approaches to the General Staff with all the evidence we can find and suggest the arrest and immediate trial of these jokers who govern us. (That’s if not all the Generals have been brainwashed with Common Purpose).

  26. The Chief of the General Staff, Sir Richard Dannatt, seems well aware of the big picture:

“When I see the Islamist threat in this country I hope it doesn’t make undue progress because there is a moral and spiritual vacuum in this country. Our society has always been embedded in Christian values; once you have pulled the anchor up there is a danger that our society moves with the prevailing wind. I think it is up to society to realise that is the situation we are in. We can’t wish the Islamist challenge to our society away and I believe that the Army, both in Iraq and Afghanistan and probably wherever we go next, is fighting the foreign dimension of the challenge to our accepted way of life. We need to face up to the Islamist threat, to those who act in the name of Islam and, in a perverted way, try to impose Islam by force on societies that do not wish it. It is said that we live in a post-Christian society. I think that is a great shame. The broader Judaic-Christian tradition has underpinned British society. It underpins the British Army.” wiki

If the Army is to retain its “Judaic-Christian tradition”
then the indigenous, native people of Britain must be the overwhelming majority within our country. This is the issue, and it really is as simple as that.

    Posted by Stringbag | May 13, 2008, 5:13 pm
  27. “Yes I agree that our troops are committed to he Queen as I was as a serving soldier.”

The monarch is effectively a figurehead though, Johnny Reb. Power started to ebb away from the Crown several centuries ago. The first Prime Minister was Robert Walpole who dominated British politics during the first half of the 18th century. The “prerogative powers” once exercised by the Monarch came to devolve on the Prime Minister, notably war and treaty making powers and patronage - the right to appoint his nominees throughout the system of government, that is what his power rests upon. It is a nice constitutional fiction that the soldier serves the Crown and through the Crown the nation. In fact the forces are obliged to serve King Gordon Brown, and prior to that King Cheesy Tony, neither of them inspiring monarchs to put it mildly.

This would perhaps not be so bad if we had a proper representative in Parliament, but the fact is we don’t. Under the FPTP electoral system what we get is an extremely unrepresentative “representative” which puts one faction of lib-lab-con into power, in 2005 this was on the basis of 22% of those entitled to vote backing Liebour. The plain truth is these people don’t have real legitimacy.

  30. If Gordon is so keen for everyone else to wear a uniform, despite risks home and abroad, perhaps he might be happy to lead the way without backup from his 00 units in the background. Then again, he’s not really a leader is he?

Not that he deserves a uniform, anyway.
