By Joe Priestly — It’s the question that’s on everyone’s lips, especially establishment lips. And the LibLabCons are getting their knickers in a terrible twist as they struggle to answer it: What does it mean to be British?
But since when did they give a damn about what it means to be British? The political elite have been leading us away from Britishness since the end of the Second World War, and post war politicians have been consistent in favouring the international over the national. It was the LibLabCons that gave away our independence by signing us up to the UN and to the EU, and they paved the way for this betrayal by attacking and ridiculing the idea of Britishness. Their insane fantasy was and still is to turn us British into ‘citizens of the world’.
Yet now they have the audacity to fly the flag and call for patriotism. Can you imagine anything more absurd - or ironic - than the liberal establishment flying the patriotic flag? When Samuel Johnson said that patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel he was of course talking about the patriotism of convenience, the very sort practiced by LibLabCon traitors.
Mention of flag and nation now even has the likes of left wing warbler Billy Bragg wiping a tear from his eye. No, don’t laugh. It really was a tear, honest. Billy’s written a book about it, The Progressive Patriot - a search for belonging. And then there’s his eagerly awaited new album Red, White, Black ‘n Blue in which “…he movingly explores the dynamics of the new patriotism from the perspective of international socialism in the context of the multiracial multicultural society as viewed from an isolated mansion on the Devon coast.” Must get that one.
Although it wasn’t his intention, Bragg’s scribbling illustrates the establishment’s Alice in Wonderland thought processes with a remarkable precision; The Progressive Patriot is a sort of autobiographical musing during which Bragg searches for “…a sense of belonging that is accessible to all.”
Those are the words, aren’t they? They could just as easily have come from a Labour Government Minister, or a member of the Opposition front bench, or a back bencher from either side of the House. They could be the words of a leading Civil Servant, a newspaper editor, or of a local councillor (though not BNP). It’s the sort of thing you find printed at the bottom of headed paper from the council, or from any government department - it could even be the title of an essay that one of your children is asked to write at school.
The phrase encapsulates perfectly the witlessness of the liberal establishment’s grand design - all together now, in new-speak of course, “Working towards creating a sense of belonging that is accessible to all”.
A country is defined by its exclusivity; it is a product of the peculiarities of its people. Britain isn’t France because its people aren’t French. And to anyone with an ounce of common sense a country that’s ‘accessible to all’ won’t be a country for very long; accessibility and social cohesion are mutually exclusive. But our establishment didn’t see it like that. Blinkered by equality dogma and seduced by dreams of utopia, it saw exclusivity as an obstacle to its long term goal, a stateless world governed according to the theory of universal equality. So naturally patriotism was a bit of a problem.
Love of country is love of its history, tradition, and way of life, and, dare I say it, love of its people. Patriotism is an expression of exclusivity, of belonging, of commitment, and its whole essence is ‘us’ and ‘them’. But Britain’s ruling elite are cosmopolitan and global; they rejected the reality of nation in favour of an ideal, universal equality, and in so doing they set themselves in opposition to exclusivity, patriotism, and even their own people. And with increasing fervour over the years the establishment has employed every arm of state to pervert and demean the expression of patriotic feeling so that it was seen as legitimate only in respect of sporting events.
The intellectuals and their friends in the entertainment industry have alternated between ridiculing patriotism and associating it with mass murder. The education system has taught its pupils to be ashamed of being British. And the British political system and bureaucracy act as though the rest of the world has a higher priority than the British people do. Two or three national newspapers have with varying degrees of effort attempted to resist this trend, but in the main patriotism has been presented as at best ‘…something that polite people don’t do,’ at worst ‘…something that Nazis do.’
And of course if the intention is to radically change the nature of a country, undermining the population’s support for it is a pretty good place to start. The cohesiveness of 1950’s Britain is what first hits whenever newsreels from the time appear on television. But that cohesiveness got in the way of the LibLabCon plan. So British people were made to feel bad if they felt good about their country and about who and what they were. Only if they felt bad about those things could they feel good about themselves - that’s how it works in Orwellian Britain. The intention was to make ethnic Britons psychologically incapable of resisting the changes the LibLabCons intended to force on them. It was the liberal elite’s precise intent to bring us to this sorry state where so many of us now no longer know who we are.
It was treason on a vast scale. The people whom we gave the responsibility to act in our best interests have reduced us to the status of rats at a research facility. Our own establishment has used us as the subjects in their experiment to create The New Britain according to their theory of equality. They wanted a Britain that was “…accessible to all” and that’s what we’ve got.
Yet now our leaders want us to fly the flag and love our country. Suddenly it’s OK to be patriotic. What’s changed?
Two factors combine to fuel this LibLabCon change of direction. The first is that we’ve arrived! New Britain is accessible to all by virtue of the governing elite’s commitment to immigration, to the UN, to the EU, and ultimately to World Government. They had us commit national suicide on the altar of equality and out of the cremated remains they constructed New Britain. So naturally they want us to support it.
The second factor is that the imposition of the multiracial multicultural society on ethnic Britons has raised the thorny issue of belonging. And in so doing it has highlighted the fault lines of ethnicity, culture, and religion that are running through new, accessible, New Britain. Even woolly-minded liberals are waking up to that one. Their solution though is the same sort of head-in-the-clouds wishful thinking that got us into this problem in the first place. They want to create a new sense of belonging for Britain’s patchwork of cultures; a special something that ‘unites us in diversity’. This is how these idiots’ brains work.
But haven’t we already got that special something that ‘unites us in diversity’ - it’s called chaos and it goes hand in hand with multiracial multicultural societies.
By a process of a thousand cuts the LibLabCons succeeded in suppressing the expression of and respect for British culture to facilitate their importation into our midst of millions of inassimilable and potentially hostile aliens. They wanted to construct heaven on earth in Britain; instead they created hell.
We have a situation now where an increasing number of ethnic Britons are unhappy with the changes imposed on our society by the establishment in its quest for paradise. And as a direct consequence of those changes Britain has a growing and aggressive Muslim population that demands to have its own say on what it means to be British. And the LibLabCons are playing an uncomfortable game of piggy in the middle.
So the search is on for a Britain that all groups will happily to subscribe to; the LibLabCons are (desperately) “Working towards creating a sense of belonging that is accessible to all.” They want a new meaning to being British.
Former Attorney General Lord Goldsmith is concerned that there is “less belonging” than there used to be. Now fancy that! I wonder if it’s got anything to do with the policies promoted by the likes of Goldsmith et al in their eagerness to use mass immigration as a means of changing Britain. The great Lord’s solution is an oath of allegiance to be introduced into Britain’s schools. This idea has as its long term goal the theft of our children’s birthright. It aims to catch ethnic British children young, to brainwash them into giving their allegiance to the multi-mishmash nightmare created by Goldsmith and his ilk, and to have them think of themselves as ‘one of a nation of immigrants’.
Not long ago Goldsmith was arguing for a change in the words of the National Anthem so that it was more, wait for it, inclusive. Minister of Culture (sic) Margaret Hodge is similarly angst-ridden about the lack of inclusiveness; witness her recent attack on the Proms for its failure to represent properly our modern, diverse, and vibrant society. Couldn’t space be found in the programme for gangsta rap?
And let’s not forget Gordon Brown’s proposal of a national holiday to celebrate ‘Britishness’ - and that without first deciding what Britishness is.
These people have deliberately undermined the notion of Britain and now they’re struggling to put something in its place that both fits their world view and is sufficiently inclusive to attract mutually exclusives. More pie in the sky anyone?
Writing recently in the Sunday Times magazine, allegedly about the issue of ‘no-go Britain’ but in reality putting the case for diversity, establishment historian John Cornwell unintentionally illustrated the LibLabCons’ confusion; “In a class of third years (at a school in Essex)… with only one white pupil and four veiled Muslim girls… It struck me listening to these articulate pupils, British yet widely diverse in culture, ethnicity, and religion…”
“British yet widely diverse in culture, ethnicity, and religion…” So what exactly is it that makes them British? According to Cornwell’s thinking, and that of the rest of the establishment, being British is not about culture, ethnicity, or religion - it is about perceiving the world through the same eyes as the LibLabCons.
The vision of British citizenship for the 21st Century is, according to Prime Minister Brown, “…one founded on a unifying idea of rights matched with responsibilities.” In other words anyone can be British, irrespective of their culture, ethnicity, and religion, provided they concur with the establishment’s idea of rights and responsibilities. As usual Brown and the LibLabCons lack the wherewithal to follow their argument through to its logical conclusion: Compare a Somali immigrant to this country who accepts without reservation the establishment’s rights and responsibilities argument with an ethnic Briton who disputes it - according to the establishment the former is more British than the latter. That’s another fine mess you’ve got us into Mr Brown. Or is it a calculated effort to deprive us of our country?
Having created this multicultural mess the LibLabCons are now grappling with what they call ‘the progressive dilemma’ - the conflict between solidarity and diversity. This problem is entirely of their making; they purposely introduced diversity in order to undermine our solidarity and our resistance to the changes they intended to impose. But societies without solidarity tend to exist in a permanent state of tension, as the LibLabCons are discovering - hence their efforts to create some sort of solidarity behind a new patriotism.
The establishment favours the kind of diversity brought about by mass third world immigration - otherwise they’d not have done what they’ve done and they’d stop doing it now. So having created accessible-to-all Britain they now want us to put our support behind it. They’re motivated also by the realisation that something is needed to fill the vacuum left behind by their eradication of the old patriotism. And their solution, Ladies and Gentlemen, is (drum roll) ‘progressive patriotism’.
It’s a modern sort of patriotism designed for the 21st century globalised world. A non-patriotic patriotism where literally anyone can join; it’s the sort you know the LibLabCons will just love. Whereas ‘old fashioned’ patriotism was founded on solidarity, exclusiveness, love of country, of its history, tradition, way of life, and people, progressive patriotism is founded on diversity, inclusiveness, contempt for country, history, tradition, way of life, and people.
Present day diverse Britain is a result of the practical application of the equality theory - and the LibLabCons are working to achieve a situation where literally anyone can be British; where the only condition on acceptance is support for diversity. They want us to rejoice in the fact that this country has been so ‘tolerant’ these past sixty years that it has tolerated its own destruction.
‘New Britain is founded on equality, its greatest achievement is its tolerance, and its people are bound together in their acceptance of certain fundamental rights and responsibilities.’ Well that’s the theory, that’s the ideal that the LibLabCons would have us believe - and they slant everything within their power to that effect. Having demolished Britain their aim is to rebuild it from top down.
They want to redefine what it means to be British so that it is consistent with the Britain they’ve created. But precisely what is it they have created - now there’s a question!
Their search for “…a sense of belonging that is accessible to all” is recognition of the problems associated with defining what it means to be British in multiracial multicultural Britain. On the face of it the LibLabCons are big on diversity but just beneath the surface they’re in a life and death struggle to resolve the problems that accompany it. Yet all the while they fluctuate between minimising those problems and denying their existence. Oh what a tangled web they weave…
They’ve bitten off more than they can chew.
What now passes for the British people is in fact a collection of unrelated, competing, and often antagonistic communities that just so happen to live on British soil. The only thing that binds them is their proximity. So how does one define them as a whole?
Over the years the LibLabCons have employed the tactic of minimising difference in order to facilitate its imposition. Their intention was to have us believe difference made no difference, though curiously they also want us to celebrate it. But now even they have woken up to the realisation that difference means a lot more than a preference for spicy food.
Conspiracy theorists go on about everything according to a plan, but surely not even the LibLabCons would have intentionally dug themselves into such a hole. They talk about ‘the banality of evil’ but where this lot are concerned ‘the incompetence of evil’ is more appropriate.
The LibLabCons have never really valued difference. To them it was merely a tool; a technique for undoing British society so that something else could be put in its place. And they worked on the assumption that after a limited period immigrants would drop their own cultural preferences for those on offer in an internationalised western liberal democracy; and if that’s not cultural chauvinism I don’t know what is. But much to the establishment’s horror Muslim immigrants in particular haven’t taken the bait. The political establishment encouraged the growth of Islamic culture as part of its effort to remake Britain. It didn’t anticipate that Islam would take on a life of its own to such an effect that it now presumes to challenge the LibLabCon hegemony.
And in a frantic effort to stop these centrifugal forces spinning out of control the LibLabCons are trying to cobble together a new definition of what it means to be British. It seems like only yesterday that they were saying there’s no such thing. What an incredible about turn.
Yet defining “…a sense of belonging that’s accessible to all” is no easy matter. Indeed, is it possible? Brown has talked about ‘rights and responsibilities’ but he hasn’t gone so far as to say what rights and what responsibilities. He must know there’s a lot of trouble down that road; how much common ground is there between mutually exclusives? There’s talk of tolerance coming into it, oh yes, and equality too - naturally. But there’s no meat on those bones either. And it’s unlikely the LibLabCons will put any on them; the establishment have a problem with precision. It’s a philosophical thing. They believe in a world without boundaries, irrespective of whether they are boundaries between nations or between individuals, and they’ve modelled Britain according to that.
And as for the inconvenient truth that we define ourselves according to our differences - that’s under the carpet, where the LibLabCons have swept it.
Consider for a moment the concept of tolerance and the idea that it should be used as a means of uniting the nation. Apparently Britain’s tolerance is something that we all can be proud of and that we should all celebrate. But even if this were true, which it is not, tolerance could only help unite the nation if we all had the same appreciation of it. We don’t: The LibLabCons favour tolerance because they want us to tolerate the chaos they’ve inflicted on us; the liberal-minded favour tolerance because it makes them feel good about themselves; the immigrants favour tolerance because it makes them feel secure; and as for the rest of us, before we commit ourselves we want to know who’s asking us to tolerate what!
The establishment’s shaky reasoning is also evident in its ‘patriotic’ appeal for us to celebrate diversity because diversity is our strength. Patriotism is the antithesis of diversity; the former is exclusive by way of its unity, the latter is inclusive by way of universality. What they really want is us to celebrate being made un-British; they want us to celebrate our demise.
They deliberately undid Britain’s cohesion by introducing radical difference and then blithely labelled the chaos they’d unleashed ‘the progressive dilemma’. With breathtaking effrontery they defined the problem they created ‘progressive’ and called the resultant social strife a ‘dilemma’. And then, as if to rub the dirt in our faces, the LibLabCons put the cause of the growing discontent in society down to a lack of patriotism. These people really must be taken to task.
Being British cannot help but mean different things to different people in multiracial, multicultural, multifaith Britain - you’d have to have your head in the sand to deny it. From the point of view of free thinking Britons, Britain as it is today is an aberration; from the point of view of liberal minded Britons it is something to be celebrated; from the point of view of immigrant communities it is a free-for-all in which they seek to advance their specific interests relative to those of ethnic Britons. And from this the LibLabCons are going to forge a new nation? Of course they are.

A very good read.
Hats off to the author, I have faith the BNP and the real Brits to prevent the LibLabCons ‘dream’ becoming a reality!
God bless the BNP
God bless Great Britain
A brilliant read and very true, and then up popped our chairman one Mr Griffin………….To be continued. VOTE BNP
On being English has anyone seen this video? I felt very reassured of my pride in this country after watching it.

Excellent article.
If you want to change society you have to have society wanting to change with you , clearly it does not, hence the growth of support for parties like ours. People have nowhere else to go. We were never asked if we wanted the fundamentals of our society changed , the Government(s) just did it. Hence the huge problem we have. I sometimes ask myself “Jerry why do you wear lapel badges, all your friends and mates know who you are”. I never used to. I once thought (many years ago I hasten to add) that patriotism was for people who had nothing in their lives to aspire for ‘Little Englanders’ was the phrase used at one time.
I am very patriotic now because I realize what I could be / am losing bit by bit. It is only in the last five years or so that I have started to fear the damage being done to my country.
The history of this country is one of vast colour and vibrancy. Characters larger than life have come from Britain. Science , arts, music, literature the list goes on, all have great tradition in this country and we need to be proud of our cultural achievements. This country has made me and all of us like minded people who we are. We must protect this culture of ours, as there are forces that will do whatever it takes to destroy who we are.
Without identity we have no future, culture, or society. The May elections are a chance for an historic important step forwards and I wish all those standing up to be counted all the best.

Excellent read.
Hello there
I am not a member of the BNP but I am looking forward to voting BNP.
Every political debate I have, I always defend the BNP and urge people to vote for them.
Due to my job, I cant join (sadly), but I will make every effort to urge people to vote BNP.
The future is bright, the future is BNP, you have more supporters than you think.
Nick Griffin is the true friend of Great Britons and the future of British politics.

Best wishes. - Ed.
Excellent article. The only flag this lot want to fly is a red one with a hammer and sickle on it. End the chaos and madness, VOTE BNP.
Bnp 4 me! not racist not fascist say it as it is! all who love our country culture and way of life regardless of colour or religion will prosper as one unified under the BNP. Taxes down stupidity gone replaced with common sense and decency.
Well said JRNationalist! Me as well. My employer would have me down the road as soon as sneeze if they found out I had joined. They are not happy because I refused to fill out an “Ethnic Diversity Questionnaire”. The said form had no option to tick for being White English!! This is just one manifestation of the things this excellent article talks about. The “erasure” of White English culture and our very being from an official and local government viewpoint. I also am sincerely looking forward to the prospect of a raft of BNP MPs. One day it will happen. Most people I talk to are totally anti-immigration, and have had enough of the pandering to the “Islamic sub-state” which is being allowed to form here in Britain. I, like many others want to see it removed. Only one party has the guts to stand up to the “religion of peace”. I would happily pay higher taxes in the short term if the money was used to repatriate the unwanted hordes who have come here to wreck my homeland. My favourite slogan, Enoch was Right!!
I support the BNP through and through, and it would seem that the left-wing lib, lab,con parties have noticed the BNP’s surge in popularity so they are pretending to be nationalists too, for a few weeks. Talking of Britishness, I must point out the fact that the Cornish people (they are a different people from the English) are very worried about the BNP getting into power. They feel that the BNP is totally against them and they don’t feel British at all. I support the Cornish in their fight for independence, as if England was made to be part of Cornwall, I would do everything in my power to get it’s independence back. The fact of the matter is, they feel the BNP will destroy their already severely damaged culture and destroy their language and attempts at becoming their own nation once again. I think the BNP should give them this if they get to power. I imagine then they would trust the government (you) a lot more, and would feel a lot prouder to be British.
-
The BNP supports Cornish culture and traditions, Welsh culture and traditions, Scottish culture and traditions, Northumbrian culture and traditions… do you get the picture? They are all absolutely vital to the vibrancy and Pride of the British people that have inhabited these islands for so many thousands of years-Ed
What a fantastic article! Well done Joe Priestly.
Great article. More please.
Jao7,
So well said.
If my employers discovered that I was a member, I’d be fired. It would be a political witch-hunt, then a P45. Political persecution, by any other name. But I joined anyway.
Sometimes you just have to find the courage to make a stand.
My job is very important to me, but in the grand scheme of things, my country is more important than my job.
I can’t understand Brits who talk of separating from England! Why does Cornwall feel that it is independent from England? Should you gain independence will you pay for your own housing, education, prisons, hospitals, fire/police/ambulance and water? Will you still expect subsidies from the rest of the British tax payers? Do you plan on building borders and declaring sovereignty? Will you man these borders yourselves? Should you need defending will it be the British army that you call upon? When was Cornwall actually its own country? Why are you not proud to be a part of Britain? The very least of your problems are the indigenous from the British Isles. England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales…and oh yes, Cornwall, would be better to unite against the open door immigration policy, which is the biggest threat to British identity, culture, traditions, and language, than the BNP and the rest of your British counterparts will ever be.
Having jusr read that two “Brits” were killed in Somalia by Islamist gunmen I discovered that one was a Somalian with a British passport.
Theres the answer to what the Britishness test is.
Have you, or have you not, got a British passport?
Its the only test that works.
Pity that the result is so meaningless.
In the USA, the late Charlton Heston, gave a speech in 1999 on ‘Winning the Cultural War,’
In this remarkable speech, Charlton Heston eloquently demonstrates the loss of freedom caused by political correctness. In the Questions & Answers section, he effortlessly takes questions from the floor.
listen , read, or listen to the Q&A
Some highlights:
… I’ve come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated.
For example, I marched for civil rights with Dr. King in 1963 - long before Hollywood found it fashionable. But when I told an audience last year that white pride is just as valid as black pride or red pride or anyone else’s pride, they called me a racist.
I’ve worked with brilliantly talented homosexuals all my life. But when I told an audience that gay rights should extend no further than your rights or my rights, I was called a homophobe.
I served in World War II against the Axis powers. But during a speech, when I drew an analogy between singling out innocent Jews and singling out innocent gun owners, I was called an anti-Semite.
… I am not afraid. If Americans believed in political correctness, we’d still be King George’s boys - subjects bound to the British crown.
… What does all this mean? It means that telling us what to think has evolved into telling us what to say, so telling us what to do can’t be far behind.
Before you claim to be a champion of free thought, tell me: Why did political correctness originate on America’s campuses? And why do you continue to tolerate it? Why do you, who’re supposed to debate ideas, surrender to their suppression? Let’s be honest. Who here thinks your professors can say what they really believe?
That scares me to death. It should scare you too, that the superstition of political correctness rules the halls of reason.
You are the best and the brightest. … most … socially conformed and politically silenced generation … you are - by your grandfathers’ standards – cowards. … Who will guard the raw material of unfettered ideas, if not you? Democracy is dialogue!
Who will defend the core value of academia, if you supposed soldiers of free thought and expression lay down your arms and plead, “Don’t shoot me.”
If you talk about race, it does not make you a racist.
If you see distinctions between the genders, it does not make you sexist.
If you think critically about a denomination, it does not make you anti-religion.
If you accept but don’t celebrate homosexuality, it does not make you a homophobe.
… But what can you do? …You simply … disobey. Peaceably, yes. Respectfully, of course. Nonviolently, absolutely.
… I am asking you to disavow cultural correctness with massive disobedience of rogue authority, social directives and onerous laws that weaken personal freedom.
But be careful … it hurts. Disobedience demands that you put yourself at risk. Dr. King stood on lots of balconies.
You must be willing to be humiliated … to endure the modern-day equivalent of the police dogs at Montgomery and the water cannons at Selma.
… When your university is pressured to lower standards until 80% of the students graduate with honors . . . choke the halls of the board of regents.
… When someone you elected is seduced by political power and betrays you . . . petition them, oust them, banish them.
… So that this nation may long endure, I urge you to follow in the hallowed footsteps of the great disobediences of history that freed exiles, founded religions, defeated tyrants, and yes, in the hands of an aroused rabble in arms and a few great men, by God’s grace, built this country. …
A true Briton takes great pride in his country’s glorious history. This includes our imperial past, so recently forgotten except by the left, who rail against it and use it to justify shafting the indigenous Brit. It is mistake for the British nationalist to overlook our past. More than anything, a People are their shared history. This is known to the left, and this is why the regime seeks to denigrate and wipe out our history. If all memory of our shared history can be erradicated, we shall submit more readily to the EU tyranny, for we shall no longer be a People.
A Briton knows that “Great Britain” is the opposite of Lesser Britain; the name means “All the British Isles”, and not just England. To be British is to be more than merely English, or Scottish, or Welsh, or Irish. A Briton identifies with all four nations, looking upon each as kin. For we share a history.
The several hundreds of thousands of us who have both Scottish and English blood are British. We live in this or that country, and we may come to identify with a particular country in the British Isles, but our blood marks us as forever British.
Britons share a culture. We share a language. We share a love of true freedom, founded upon individual liberty tempered by personal responsibility. A Briton abhors tyrants. A Briton hates and despises the EU tyranny.
A Briton will fight to defend his land against invasion. In this we are as any people anywhere, but our history shows us that whereas foreigners give up the fight, we never give in. Never!
A Briton cannot vote for the liblabcon-federacy and still regard himself as British; he is voting for submission to the EU each time he votes for one of the Gang of Three.
A true Briton will support the BNP. He has no other choice, for the BNP is the only party which is actively engaged in defending the British People.
JRNationalist, patriotbrit, Legend – you should all be proud of yourself. Whether it’s the nature of your job that prevent you from joining any(or particular) party or your employee who has a problem with anyone being ‘more British then average’ or you simply decide that you’ve made enough compromises and that you don’t wish to hide your political views anymore, the most important thing is that your hearts and minds are in the right place, that you openly display and defend your love of Britain (and the BNP) and that you’re all on the same (right) side. The BNP is slowly (but surely) becoming strong political power in Britain and it won’t be long before all of you can take proud in saying – yep, I was a patriot and BNP supported even when it was almost illegal to be one! Ed, please correct me if I’m wrong.
Take care,
PICK BRITAIN UP!
I stopped being “British” when the government flooded the country and “British” no longer meant anything all the wrong things.
I’m English and proud of it as the Welsh and Scottish are proud.
An excellent and well written article addressing lots of prudent points. For any sort of real unity we need strong nationalism as its corner stone. The establishment seems to be finally realising what a huge and enormous mess they have made. The thing is though after such an act who will vote for them or take them seriously again when the full truth hits the fan.
The last invasion of these isles was in 1066. Throughout the next 1,000 years the British people grew together and formed one nation. There might have been sporadic minor influxes from nearby countries on the Continent like Flanders and France, but it has only been within the last hundred years that stock from much farther afield and to a far greater extent has been grafted on. British evolution is not the evolution of Asians, Africans or Caribbeans. How can it be? There is no common base for all of us any more than there would be in a vast concentration camp - just the fact that we are all interned together. If we forget our history, we shall become the dispossessed. How will we be able to claim the land as ours? Intruders will have taken our birthright from us and our leaders will have connived at it.
This move towards a new form of patriotism is very, very dangerous for us, because we will no longer be able to appeal to that deep vein of support that is the lifeblood of British nationhood - it will have been contaminated by something spurious and superficial, junk patriotism masquerading as the real thing. Many people will be taken in and in the end true patriotism will be rendered as effete as the substitute. They are trying to use our own weapons against us and it will require serious thought on how best to combat this attack. Any constructive thoughts, anyone?
“The BNP supports Cornish culture and traditions, Welsh culture and traditions, Scottish culture and traditions, Northumbrian culture and traditions… do you get the picture? They are all absolutely vital to the vibrancy and Pride of the British people that have inhabited these islands for so many thousands of years-Ed”
Er, Ed, what happened to English culture and traditions? It is ironic that the word “British” is derived from the name of the Brythonic tribes of these Islands, yet the Cornish don’t feel British but Cornish. Something of a contradiction in terms. That’s because most people in the respective countries that make up the U.K. have an abysmal grasp of their own histories. I for one see myself as English (that’s because I am!), derived from those Anglo-Saxon tribes(i.e. Angles, Saxons, Jutes, Frisians). If to have a Celtic identity is seen as okay then to have an English Anglo-Saxon identity is just as valid. And no, I don’t need an history lesson in English history thanks. I’ve studied early English history with a passion for years. All this nonsense about the Anglo-Saxon people being a relatively small group is just that - nonsense.
It’s about time the English were recognized as their own unique ethnic group. I am English. The only ones who should regard themselves as British are those on the Celtic fringes.
-
Oh Yikes! So.. what an earth am I? Scottish on one side of the family (Blair/Barrie), and Welsh/English on the other (Bethell/Brindley)!-Ed
It’s an interesting point from Saxonman. Of course all these questions may never have arisen had it not been for mass third world immigration. But that’s because we can only really see ourselves by looking at others - we see how others do things and define ourselves by how we do them differently.
Immigration has blurred the meaning of being British, and membership of a club that anyone can join is not a particularly enticing prospect. Hence the Scottish, Welsh, and Cornish movements. Yet no such English movement. Then again the establishment is dead against English nationalism because of course that would whip the rug right out from under its feet.
“It’s about time the English were recognized as their own unique ethnic group. I am English. The only ones who should regard themselves as British are those on the Celtic fringes.”
I don’t believe this is a correct historical view, Saxonman. I’ve been quite interested in this topic of the origins of England for some time.
From what I’ve read there was no general wholesale population replacement in what was a complicated process which took place over centuries. The recent genetic evidence seems to suggest this strongly(Weale and Cappelli, Stephen Oppenheimer though Dr Thomas takes a contrary view on a more limited survey ).
The majority of the population in what became England were of Celtic origin, who, in the centuries after the conquest adopted English language and ways. The English nation emerged as a political entity during the 10th and 11th centuries, it certainly was a fusion of “Anglo-Saxon”(English) and Celtic peoples. In 1016 the Chronicler wrote of “all the people of England ….all the English nation”, which I believe is the first such reference. This is over 500 years after the arrival of the English in Britain. It is therefore quite historically consistent to regard ourselves as both English and British. The reason that the British identity has been damaged of course is the the third world post war invasion which resulted in British citizenship being thrown around like confetti.
Great article by Joe Priestly, it needs a bit of time to digest and think it through.
There is no doubt however that the Anglo-Saxon immigration to Britain in the 5/6th century was absolutely disastrous to the Romano-British. The British language and culture disappeared, was practically extirpated, from the lands that became England. The word Welsh meant “foreigner” in the early English language, and indeed “slave” in a West Saxon context. The British monk, Gildas, was suitably outraged - particularly at the supine folly of the “liberal” elite of his day. For it all started when they they invited immigrants to do work that the natives supposedly wouldn’t:
“Nothing was ever so pernicious to our country, nothing was ever so unlucky. What palpable darkness must have enveloped their minds–darkness desperate and cruel! Those very people whom, when absent, they dreaded more than death itself, were invited to reside, as one may say, under the selfsame roof.”

The only place for the Indigenous people to go is into the sea.
Remember, the 300 at thermopali held thousands of Muslims back until they too were betrayed by their own. Slaughtered to a man they gave us what we have today ….. FREEDOM! ….. and with our soldiers we have our LAND we must do as they did and fight!
Traitors must be tried for treason …. with death penalty an option!
